If you’ve been inspired by the London 2012 Games and want to get into sailing, then make sure you visit the One Show Summer Festival where the RYA has everything you need to get involved.

Taking place on 6th-7th August in Weston-super -Mare, the free family event is open to all visitors with the RYA bringing sailing and windsurfing to the Sports Zone - a must for anyone looking to take their first steps getting out on the water.

Talk to the RYA ‘go sailing’ team about the best boats and boards, what kind of kit you’ll need, how the whole family can get involved, where you can go to learn and where your nearest clubs and sailing facilities are.

You can even have a go without getting wet! Learn the basics of sailing on dry land as you race around a virtual course on the dinghy sailing simulators. You’ll even be able to feel the wind in your hair!

On Wednesday (seventh August) hang out with London 2012 Silver Medallist Stuart Bithell and his sailing partner Chris Grube who are taking time out of their busy sailing schedule to sign autographs, share their top sailing tips and inspire you to get out on the water.

Learn all about the art of trapezing; don a harness and clip on to the RYA’s unique trapeze rig under the watchful eyes of an RYA expert. You’ll be hooked!

If you think windsurfing might be for you, make sure you get down to the beach and learn the basics with coaching sessions on the RYA windsurfing simulators.

Think you can tie a knot? Test your knot tying skills in the aptly named ‘Knot Wall Challenge’. We’ll teach you a selection of boating knots so you can challenge your friends and family to a ‘tie-off’ and crown yourself knot tying champion!

'We are really excited about bringing sailing and windsurfing to the One Show Summer festival in Weston-super- Mare' said RYA Sport Development Manager Jon White. 'It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to come and find out what the sport is all about. Thank you to OTC Weymouth and to RS Sailing for their involvement'.

The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker will present a live episode of the show on Wednesday 7th August at seven pm direct from Weston seafront .The One Show Summer Festival is free and family-friendly and will be situated on Weston seafront. No tickets will be needed.
