Tassie Trio 2012 - Remaining fleets heading towards Hobart

The Tassie Trio 2012 has come to its end with the remainder of the participating fleet heading towards Hobart just in time for tomorrow’s New Year’s Day celebration.

As the Hobart weather heats up and preparations get under way for tomorrow’s New Year celebrations, the dock is becoming ever more crowded with only four boats yet to take their berths.

Matrix and Seven50 made their pass of the Taste of Tasmania festival to raucous cheers, following a few hours behind Dry White from the tough conditions that plagued competitors in the east coast race.

The two boats that stood by Afrayed Knot when it was dismasted yesterday, Yoko and Turbulence, received 45 minutes and 1:15 respectively in redress for their time missed. This is unlikely to affect the major placings but could impact the minor placings. Official handicap results will be checked and confirmed by the ORCV race director before they are released.

Cavarlo is expected to arrive from the west coast race in approximately half an hour, and depending on wind the first boat to come in from the east is Escapade, which is still approximately two hours away on its approach to the Iron Pot. Dejavu is chasing about ten nautical miles behind.

It’s slow going for Morning Star with 50 nautical miles still to sail, but if they can hold their current speed of around five knots they should avoid gale winds that are predicted to develop in the South West Cape, and be docked before the day is out.
The presentation of awards and results will be held at 5:00 tomorrow at the Derwent Sailing Squadron.

Finishing times:
Eastcoaster:
Matrix 11:33
Seven50 12:31
