Sydney Yachts impress with GTS 43

The GTS 43 from Sydney Yachts is the new generation of racer cruiser.

Not since the arrival of the Sydney BH 41 in 1993 has a yacht been so eagerly anticipated as the new GTS series to lay claim to the best performing dual purpose yacht on the market.

The GTS 43 from Sydney Yachts is exactly what the company stands for. A performance bred design with a quality functional interior. Whether it be in a Hobart race or a Sunday afternoon at anchor with the family the new GTS 43 from Sydney Yachts impresses in all qualities.

With the emphasis on performance the time and effort was applied well before any boat builders got a look in at any plans or concepts. Start with the concept ' We want to sail a fun exciting yacht that will get up and go downwind as well as be just as comfortable slogging it to windward racing south to Hobart'.

Then head into the design coordination, with Ker design on board they set about the R&D process utilizing their existing knowledge (The new Custom built Ker 44 just launched in NZ and also the Custom built Ker 46 which was named RORC yacht of the year). One could say a great base to start with. The hull shape used for the Sydney GTS43 is the product of Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) research, a significant number of design options were analysed leading to some surprising and highly exciting conclusions. The final shape selected for the new Sydney GTS43 has shown to be significantly more efficient than the already highly successful previous generations of Sydney Yachts and with a trial IRC certificate already received we are very happy with the rating and VPP’s.

‘In essence, the design DNA is heavily biased towards performance. The emphasis has been placed on sailing efficiency, styling and build quality. At 6700kg, she is significantly lighter than the comparable 45-foot production boats and not a lot more than an all-out Grand Prix racer. The package on offer is more alike to a custom build at a production build price with a high level of finish and a specification to match.

It is exciting to see Australia again at the forefront of this type of design and construction, with substantial investment in tooling and ever evolving manufacturing techniques we can now offer a vessel to Club Sailors which were only in the past ever reserved for custom builds at substantially more cost.

To achieve this result Sydney Yachts have engaged some of Australia’s top talent to be involved in the new venture, a core group of boat builders who have been involved in building many of Australia’s most successful custom race boats and the World renowned Marten Yachts are now hands on manufacturing the new GTS series. With construction methods consisting of lightweight foam and e glass laminates, Vacuum bagged bulkheads, carbon fibre chain plates, rudder, rudderstock, twin composite wheels and pedestals the yacht is constructed for longevity whilst keeping weight to a minimum.
