Entrants had to predict the barometric pressure, temperature and magnetic bearing from the start vessel to the first rounding mark red from the Suunto M9 wrist top computer at the start of the first offshore division race today Sunday 20th March 2005 in the Palm Beach Regatta.
The magnetic bearing to the mark was 202, the temperature was 23 degrees and the barometric pressure was 1021.
This afternoon RPAYC officals after reviewing the hundreds of entries announced that the $1480 M9 wrist top computer, the latest tactical sailing and navigation data instrument was won by Mistral sail boarder, Alan Denniss of Lake Munmorah on the Central Coast.
He made a last minute prediction after some serious online study this morning and entered via the Sail-World site.
His heading was perfect; his pressure out by just a millibar and his temperature prediction was off by only a few degrees.
A few minutes ago the Central Coast sailor commented. 'The Suunto wrist top is perfect for my kind of sailing as well as keel boats. These days it’s mostly with the local Budgewoi Club here on Lake Munmorah. '
