Selection Events Released for 2015 US Pan American Games Team

US Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) has released the list of selection events for the 2015 United States Pan American Games Team, which will compete at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.

Pending approval by the US Olympic Committee (USOC), the top eligible team at the following events will qualify for the Pan American Games if the US has qualified as a country in the class.

RS:X Women: 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami (Miami, Fla., January 24-31, 2015)
Sunfish: 2015 Sunfish Mid-Winters (Melbourne, Fla., March 20-22, 2015)
Laser: 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami (Miami, Fla., January 24-31, 2015)
Laser Radial: 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami (Miami, Fla., January 24-31, 2015)
Hobie 16: 2014 North Americans (Lewes, Del., September 22-26, 2014)
Lightning: 2015 Winter Championships (St. Petersburg, Fla., March 12-15, 2015)
Snipe: Pan American Games Trials (San Diego, Calif., October 11-13, 2014)
49er FX: 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami (Miami, Fla., January 24-31, 2015)
J24: Pan American Games Trials (Marion, Mass. August 15-17, 2014)*

*If the United States does not qualify for a J24 berth at the 2014 J24 North American Championships, then the Trials will be held in Tampa, Fla. February 27-March 1, 2015.

The Atlantic Cup returns

The race was created in 2011 to showcase short-handed, offshore racing with hard fought competition and exciting shore based events, while also being the most environmentally sustainable sailing race in the United States. The Atlantic Cup has been carbon neutral since 2012 and was the first and is the only sports event in the U.S. to be ISO 20121 compliant.

More than 300 boats have registered for the 109th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust More than 300 boats have registered for the 109th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust, one of the world’s longest-running freshwater distance races. “The Mac”, which takes most competitors well over 24 hours to complete, is a 333-mile sprint from the Chicago Lighthouse, just east of Navy Pier, to the Round Island Channel near Mackinac Island, Michigan.

After extensive discussion and deliberation the Storm Trysail Club has decided not to organize and hold Key West Race Week in January 2018. Many factors led to this difficult decision. The bottom line is that with declining participation, the event has become heavily dependent upon sponsorship making the event unsustainable in its current format.

Celebrations for 15 years of C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Regatta
Sailors from US and Canada will arrive in Newport to take part in a regatta that has become synonymous with achievement. This year the 2.4mR and Sonar classes will be racing at The Clagett and the competitors will benefit from coaches, Betsy Alison (Newport, RI), Mike Ingham (Rochester, NY) and Brian Todd (Glen Haven, Nova Scotia, Canada), being on hand to provide coaching on and off water.
