Sailing Association Mar Menor Autumn Race Series underway

by The Leader Newspaper Online on 24 Sep 2012
Tug Wilson and Peter Cadwell - Sailing ASSN Mar Menor - 1st Race Autumn Series 2012 SW
The opening day of the Sailing Association Mar Menor (SAMM) Autumn Race Series took place on Sunday, 16th September. The race took place from the CAR Sailing Centre at Los Narejos on the Mar Menor. It was a beautiful sunny morning but not much wind. The forecast was that it would improve as the day progressed, which it did.

There were nine boats competing including the new boat brought over by Mike Woods of Disability UK which he raced with Tony Jones. The Shoestring Group had three boats sailing, one was their new Mirror which had unmistakable bright red sails. The Balaton Group raced all their three boats and The Weta Group had their two Wetas racing.

The wind was between seven and 10 knots and in an East North Easterly direction. It was an exciting race and on the corrected times there was only three seconds between Weta 14 and the Martin, and only eight seconds between Sailfish Sorocco and Shoestring Uno.
