Sail Townsville, Marine13 adds speakers, 'Master Your Boat' training

by Jeni Bone, editor on 19 Mar 2013
Another news-laden bulletin for you this week, covering all the business-building events, initiatives and up to the minute reports on boat shows, professional opportunities and new product launches sprinkled among them.

First up, Marine13 International Conference and Trade Exhibition is making final preparations for its inaugural event, 28-30 April in Sydney at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre.

Its program has been made the more diverse with the addition of two speakers who are in high demand in their fields as speakers and experts on their particular specialties.

Stephen Forth, MD at highly awarded ad agency SapientNitro, will be an extremely interesting and inspiring speaker on the secrets of social media for brands and retailers, and Billy Kirkley of Clicks2Order is a digital strategist and YouTube marketing expert.

This is not just another talk-fest with same-old, same-old presentations and case studies.

The two-day event is bursting with seminars and sessions, presentations and displays, B2B opportunities and a gala dinner.

The BIAA and MIA have assembled some of the country's and the world's foremost experts on topics as diverse as e-tailing, social media, branding, customer relationship management, what the future holds for marinas and boating, consumer trends, safety and the gamut of marine industry issues, all in one place for the benefit of industry.

You're mad if you don't tap in to this powerful arsenal of talent and sign up, even for one day, now that the Marine13 organisers are offering flexible 1 day registration so you can send more of your team. Check out the program at www.marine13.com

On to other stuff, Sail Townsville will be a new addition to the Queensland events calendar in 2013 - a 10 day International Sailing Regatta and Festival, and marketing exercise to showcase the incredible maritime location and lifestyle of this haven for cruising, fishing, diving and more!

The Townsville Council, Sealink and Yachting Queensland have joined forces with this goal in mind, creating another compelling reason for people to travel to Townsville in August and discover its abundant natural wonders.

On the Gold Coast, and coming soon to a marine near you, the 'Master Your Boat' program has just launched, built on feedback from customers and the boating public.

My mate Ian Swan and his team have come up with a fun, information-filled program that will teach boat owners the skills they need to operate their boats with confidence and safety.

It's a great initiative, aimed at encouraging boaties to use their boats more often and to enjoy the boating lifestyle they signed up for!

Loads more - previews of exhibitors new and regulars at this year's SCIBS, the preliminary post-show report from Brisbane Tinnie & Tackle, new products, sponsorship news and some insight in to the legal stoush between Laser dinghy designer, Bruce Kirby and a Laser builder, LaserPerformance.

Thanks one and all for your emails, sending your news and views! Keep em coming!

Out on the water later this week, as well as covering an exclusive that has been months in the making. Hope you're intrigued enough to pop back later in the week . . .

Pivot on this
I despise the way ‘pivot' got used as many times as those wretched QR codes... Yes indeed. As much as I would hate to take people back to the COVID era, that's exactly what I've just done. Making that problematic trip back in time look good, is how much I despise the way ‘pivot' got used as many times as those wretched QR codes.

Watching the growing sailing scene in China
A fun weekend at the 2025 Lake Fuxian Regatta I've become fascinated with the growing sailing scene in China. I had so many preconceptions ahead of my first visit to the country in 2024, which were blown out of the water on that trip, and this was reaffirmed at the Lake Fuxian Regatta.
