Sail Sydney 2013 cancelled
by Yachting NSW on 16 Aug 2013
Yachting NSW has announced the cancellation of the 2013 Sail Sydney regatta which was scheduled to be held December 12 -15.
Sail Sydney began as a test event for the 2000 Olympics and has grown in recent years to be the dinghy event with the largest number of participants in the Southern hemisphere. Over 475 boats competed in the 2012 edition.
'Unfortunately, we have not been able to secure sufficient external funding needed to run Sail Sydney this year. We have invested a lot of time and money developing the regatta to this point but it needs sponsor support to make it sustainable.
We have therefore had to make the tough but prudent decision to cancel the event,' said David Edwards, General Manager, Yachting NSW.
'I would like to thank the clubs and class associations that have supported and helped grow the event over the past few years and especially the contributions of our Regatta Director, Lachlan Gilbert and Andrew Hawkins from Mainsheet Media'.
Yachting NSW will look to reposition the event and is hopeful that Sail Sydney will return in 2014.
