Double Olympic gold medallist, Shirley Robertson returned to Scotland to inspire more than 300 young sailors, some as young as seven, competing at the annual Volvo Gill Optimist British Open and National Championship.
A number of the British Sailing Team members who competed at the London 2012 Olympic games, including five times Olympic medallist, Sir Ben Ainslie and Scottish Olympic silver medallist, Luke Patience started their racing careers in the small dinghy.
'For some of the sailors here in Largs, this is the first big event and they are really nervous, but for others, they are so confident and independent and they want to be the next Ben Ainslie. I managed to get a glimpse of all the fleets racing and they were all fantastic, it’s great to see so many young sailors on the water at the same time, enjoying fun, but competitive racing.'
