RS Elite Nationals Day 2 - Sean McLean's Elixir dominates
by Media on 27 Jun 2009
Re-write the script... Racing at the Elite championships has been so close for the whole fleet with continual multiple place changes, but one boat popped out and gave a masterclass in finishing yesterday!
Sean McLean's Elixir clinched four straight bullets yesterday in patchy conditions and has left everyone else scrabbling for the more minor placings overall.
In the first race of the day Martin Wadhams' team exchanged the lead with McLean all around the track, but lost it on the last leg. In the second one Simon Brian pushed him hard and so it went on. The final race really looked like the wheels may have come off when all the overall leaders were caught to the left when the breeze went right and filled in on that side... But the McLean's were up to the job again.
Last night looked to be shaping up for a big one, which will have tested the stamina after a four race day. With four more races over the next two days the wind looks set to be better than the original few knots for Saturday that was forecast at the start of the series.
Nearly all to play for... Unless the McLeans have a shocker.
