Pittwater Spring Cup.......sensational racing on day two

Klaus Lorenz (AUS-677) picked the shifts perfectly in Heat 2 - 2010 Pittwater Spring Cup Warwick Crossman

What a difference a day makes. After a very frustrating first day where only one race was completed on Saturday, the PRO fired off five good races on Sunday in a beautiful ENE breeze that averaged 12-14kts and was just shifty enough to reward the most alert sailors.
After six races were completed Klaus Lorenz (Qld) finished in first place recording three heat wins across the series. He was closely followed by Jim Colley (NSW) in second place who was a model of consistency, dropping a fifth as his worst result for the series and Sam Hannah (Vic) who sealed third place overall with a win in Heat 6.
Caitlin Tames (NSW) and Dan Quinlan (Vic) also scored impressive heat wins, while several young NSW sailors demonstrated that they have stepped up to a higher level on the back of some quality association coaching over winter.
The Pittwater Spring Cup, now in it's third year, also served as a useful trial run for the 2011 Australian Optimist Championship which will be hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on the same course area next January. And while the fifty strong Opti fleet was a wonderful sight on Pittwater last weekend, that fleet will be eclipsed in January when around 150 boats, including some international competitors, are expected for the Australian Championships.
