The P1 SuperStock and AquaX safety crews were out on the water over the weekend of 11-12 May for a training event ahead of the start of the new race season. The two-day programme involved the entire P1 crew to refresh and improve their skills across all disciplines.
The event was hosted at the RYA headquarters on the Hamble River, Hampshire, covered activities such as laying buoys, towing race boats and skis, rescuing casualties from the water or a boat and any possible medical incident.
Most of the training was on the water with some practical theory headed up by P1 Safety Officer Tom Pedersen and chief Paramedic Sloane Phillips both professionals within the maritime field of safety and rescue.
AquaX racer Jim Goodchild commented: 'We all benefit from this kind of training event. As a racer I feel completely confident and reassured that we are in good hands; it can be a wild and unpredictable environment when you’re out there racing and danger is part and parcel of why we do it.'
The
P1 SuperStock and
AquaX series kick off in Hull 31 May – 2 June.
