Organisational wheels of Fraglia Vela Riva now in motion

by Elena Giolai on 1 Mar 2013
XXXI Garda Optimist Meeting, Riva del Garda Giovanni De Sandre/ Fraglia Vela Riva http://www.fragliavelariva.it
The wheels of the organisational machine of Fraglia Vela Riva are now in motion as it gears up for the start of the 2013 season. Some 21 international events and 10 local heats of open-sea competition are scheduled for a total of 100 days of actual regattas. Final touches are being given to every detail to ensure that the very best is offered to members, participants, representatives of the various sailing classes, regatta officials, novices to the sport of sailing, parents and sailing enthusiasts alike from home and abroad. At the same time the programme for the sailing school has been finalized with dates and prices (unchanged) for the various children's and adult courses.

We also continue to offer the best in imagery. The finishing touches are being made to the 'Welcome Book 2013' and will be presented with its new graphic cover and logo for the first European date of the new J 70 class which will hold its first edition of the Europa Cup at Fraglia Vela Riva from ninth -14th September. Elegance, freshness and dynamism are the principal characteristics reflected in the technical nuances found in the J 70 boat which is enjoying a real boom in popularity. On-line registration is open from today and regatta information is available here.

The official start to the season draws ever closer with the 31st edition of the Garda Optimist Meeting. This year it is part of the first World Juvenile Sailing Week along with other regattas specially geared towards young sailors (29er, Europa, RS:X), organised during Easter week by the other clubs of Upper Garda and members of the new association Vela Garda Trentino (Trentino Garda Sailing). As of today – just one month from the event- pre-registrations for the Meeting are already brushing the 1000 mark: 700 juniors and 279 cadets and could easily surpass last year's number which was officially classified as a Guinness World Record with 1055 participants at the starting gate (1073 officially registered).

Once again this year the strong collaboration between Fraglia Vela Riva and Kinder + Sport continues and will be a presence at both the Garda Meeting and The World Optimist Championships in July to promote the Ferrero project which advocates and promotes the practice of sport as a healthy daily habit for youngsters. We have also renewed our partnership with Hannspree, the electronics brand specializing in displays and TVs.

For the Meeting alone 40 regatta officials and around 200 coaches are expected as well as the many families who will be accompanying their youngsters to the regatta during the Easter holidays.

An influx of around 15,000 people will be present during the last week of March. These figures are much appreciated by the Province of Trento and represent a 'safety net' especially in cases of bad weather- as happened a couple of years ago when the Easter holiday season on Upper Garda was 'saved' thanks to the regattas!
