Last week Keppel Bay Sailing Club hosted a training camp with over 60 boats from all over Queensland in preparation for the State Youth Championships held over the weekend.

The camp which was organised by Yachting Queensland had a range of different classes including 29ers, 420’s, Sabots and Optimists accompanied by some of Australia’s top coaches including; Adrian Finglas, Andrew Gough, Ben Callard and David O’Connor from North Sails Australia.

The camp was a great success and showed, how across the country, there is a huge interest in junior sailing.

Yachting Queensland have a fantastic program designed around supporting the development of junior sailors across the entire state and have some top sailors coming through the ranks.

Focusing on the Optimist Class, David O’Connor was really impressed with the level of focus and enthusiasm shown by the kids.

'I have once again been blown away by how determined and focused the Optimist junior sailors are to learn and improve their racing skills. We are able to communicate with the kids at such a high level and the future of high performance sailing in Australia looks bright.'

David will be present at all the major Optimist regattas providing both on water and off water support for all the kids with North Sails. Regattas include the NSW Youth Championships this weekend and Queensland Optimist Nationals in January.

Below is the latest video from the Queensland training camp - Check it out!
