New team to run the RS800 Owners Club in 2007

by Charlotte England on 2 Dec 2006
GUL RS800 Nationals 2006 RS800
The recent RS Sprint Champs and RS Ball marked the last event for Alan and Jane Olive as Chairman’s of the RS800 Owners Club. Ian Martin, a regular front of the fleet 800 sailor is going to act as Chairman, with newcomer to the 800 committee Ben Schooling acting as vice chairman for 2007.

When during 2005 each RS class formed Owners Clubs under the umbrella of the RS Class Association the RS800s were very fortunate that Alan 'Spod' Olive and Jane Olive picked up the baton. With their dynamic input and enthusiasm a very proactive committee formed to really mould RS800 activity and help plan events.

The increased turnouts at circuit events, a huge Garda, a rip roaring success of the Nationals and good social atmosphere in the class in 2006 is true testament to the work of Alan/Jane and all the committee.

The recent RS Sprint Champs and RS Ball marked the last event for Alan and Jane as Chairman’s of the RS800 Owners Club.

'Spod and Jane had a huge commitment to RS800 sailing and their enthusiasm was immense,' commented RS Association Chairman Pete Vincent. 'I am sure all RS800 sailors will join me in thanking them for all their work which has made such a difference to RS800 sailing.' He added.

To carry on the real progress that the RS800 Committee has made in the last two years two regular RS800 sailors have come forward willing to take over from Alan and Jane.

Ian Martin, a regular front of the fleet 800 sailor is going to act as Chairman, with newcomer to the 800 committee Ben Schooling acting as vice chairman.

With the Nationals booked for a week at Eastbourne in early Sept, a Eurocup at Travemunde in late July and a full Fat Face Racing Circuit it’s going to be a full on season for 800 sailors. I am sure Ian and Ben will get the backing and help of all RS80 sailors in making 2007 and 2008 years to be remembered.
