Red tape for superyachts wanting to visit Australia has been keeping away these mammoths of the sea according to the relatively new peak body for the Australian superyacht sector, Superyacht Australia. So, they are doing something about it.
 | Soon the marinas of Australia may look a lot more like this - .. . | This may result, in the near future, in a new Navigation Act, which will smooth the way for foreign yachts. Significantly, when the new Act comes into force, the Australian Marine Safety Authority will have exclusive safety jurisdiction over commercial foreign-flagged vessels Superyacht Australia has been working with the Australian Marine Safety Authority (AMSA) to simplify the issues for foreign flagged superyachts. They have been working hard over the past 12 months to get AMSA to understand the unique nature of the superyacht industry, particularly the difference between vessels operating commercially and recreationally. AMSA will only have jurisdiction over those operating commercially. Superyacht Australia also has a submission currently before with treasury requesting a relaxation of the charter regulations for foreign flagged vessels.
