National Open 470 regatta 2014 Elena Giolai
For the second part of the National Open 470 regatta it was a glorious day today on Lake Garda, Trentino. The first race (the fourth brought in the discard), was held with the wind from the north while in the afternoon the ora picked up to 8-9 m/sec. giving the 34 crews from 4 continents assembled at Fraglia Vela Riva the conditions for an enjoyable competition.

After the fourth race, and helped by the discard, the Brazilian crew of Mendes-Thiesen took the lead which they held on to right to the end with two seconds, two thirds , fifth and a sixteenth. Italians Falcetelli-Bernard took second place only two points behind, (today's results 5-4-8). Third place went to the Australian crew of Alexander and Patrick Conway who didn't start in the first race this morning but made up for it later with a third and first. Asenathi-Hudson of South Africa were fourth. They came first in the penultimate race. Capurro-Puppo of Italy were fifth. They had started badly yesterday but recuperated on the second day with a 1-2-4.

Compliments for the excellent work done by the regatta committee and the on water staff coordinated by Fausto Maroni who have hardly had a break since the season started with the Optimist Meeting at Easter.

All the athletes present on Garda Trentino will have two days of training before the start of Garda Trentino Olympic Week, the first leg of the Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup. The men's and women's 470 classes as well as the men's 49er and women's 49er FX will be at Fraglia Vela Riva. The opening ceremony will take place at Fraglia Vela Riva on Tuesday, May 6th at 18.30hr with the participation of Gottifredi-Mattioli technical partners of Fraglia Vela Riva.
