Mussolini se hace tercer puesto del Campeonato del Mundo de Windsurf

En un último día lleno de sorpresas, el español Alex Mussolini, número tres mundial, ha terminado en una sorprendente tercera posición en el Campeonato del Mundo de Windsurf 2013 KIA Cold Hawaii.

Alex Mussolini ha conseguido llegar hasta las semifinales donde ha sido derrotado por Philip Köster, campeón de las ediciones de 2011 y 2012, que sufrió una sorprendente e inesperada derrota en la final frente al brasileño Marcillo Brawzinho.

El español Alex Mussolini, de 28 años, tuvo la oportunidad de vencer a Köster en la semifinal en la que el alemán tuvo que recurrir a su marca de doble vuelta hacia delante para vencer a Mussolini por poco más de un punto, 38,81 – 29,45.

'Estoy un poco disgustado con la derrota, ya le he ganado antes', afirmaba Alex. El viento cambió, había muchas más olas blancas lo que hacía más difícil saltar, pero tuve una oportunidad. A pesar de todo, estoy muy contento con el tercer puesto y también estoy contento por la victoria de Brawzinho, ha estado muy bien este año. Es alguien a quien seguir'.

Browne también dejó decepcionado a Víctor Fernández, el número dos mundial, que perdió en los cuartos de final. Con dos olas y dos saltos en los primeros 15 minutos, Browne sorprendió a Víctor Fernández con 32,1 puntos frente a sus 28,63 puntos. En las semifinales, Browne consolidó su buen campeonato con una victoria frente al francés Thomas Traversa, lo que le llevó a disputar su primera final en un Mundial.

Estos resultados dejan a Mussolini como número dos del mundo, por detrás de Köster. Browne pasa al tercer puesto y Víctor Fernández cae desde el segundo hasta el cuarto puesto. Víctor Fernández tendrá una oportunidad de vengar esta derrota en el Campeonato del Mundo de Sylt que se celebrará entre el 27 de septiembre y el 6 de octubre. Los próximos campeonatos de Maui y Chile se adaptan más al ritmo de Fernández, Mussolini y Browne que al de Köster, lo cual dará tal vez un giro en la clasificación mundial. El título de campeón del mundo no había estado nunca tan disputado.

Browne derrotó a Köster, el niño prodigio de 19 años, por menos de un punto (26,38 – 25,75). Browne, de 24 años, ganó con una remontada de última hora, lo que dejó una final de infarto que se decidió con un espectacular doble bucle hacia delante hacia el final de la prueba. Browne se enteró de su victoria ya en el podio cuando le dieron el premio.

'No me lo creo, realmente no lo puedo entender', dijo Browne, visiblemente sorprendido en el podio. 'Philip es una máquina, le respeto mucho. Para mi ganar hoy ha sido algo absolutamente increíble. Traté de exprimir mi fuerza hasta el último momento. Lo di todo, pero sabía que con este viento lo único que podía hacer eran un par de saltos hacia arriba que me darían algunos puntos', reconoció Browne tras su increíble victoria. What an amazing few days in the JP Aloha Classic at Ho'okipa! What an amazing few days at the JP Aloha Classic! With the resumption of the PWA Double Elimination and the World Title decider set to sail the action was electric from the outset. The wind did not seem to want to cooperate and this only helped to add further suspense as fans tuned in from all over the world. The passing showers kept shutting the wind off leaving riders stranded out to sea.

At the JP Aloha Classic, the biggest names in windsurfing came head to head at Ho’okipa today for the Single Elimination At the JP Aloha Classic, the biggest names in windsurfing came head to head at Ho’okipa today for the Single Elimination in what has been dubbed the ‘Clash of the Titans’ with the top PWA and AWT riders pitted against each other in the mast high surf. As the NW swell continued to build through the morning so did the action.

After a drought prior to the JP Aloha Classic beginning, there was a slight concern as to whether the wind would arrive. The first day of the JP Aloha Classic started early with the opening ceremony at 9am. The time has finally come for the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) to return to the windsurfing Mecca of Maui. The time has finally come for the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) to return to the windsurfing Mecca of Maui - in association with the American Windsurfing Tour (AWT). From the 24th October to the 6th November the elite of the wave sailing world shall be once again be descending upon the wonderful shores of Maui - for the first time in seven years - as the JP Aloha Classic takes place.

At the PWA Sylt World Cup, with an outside chance of some wind and waves on the horizon, the wave fleet met at 7am. The seventh day of the GP Joule PWA Sylt World Cup proved to be the busiest day of competition thus far. The seventh day of the GP Joule PWA Sylt World Cup proved to be the busiest day of competition thus far as both the freestyle and slalom fleets took to the water. The freezing cold continued today as both the men’s freestyle double elimination - dedicated to André Paskowski - and the fifth elimination of the men’s slalom were completed before the end of a very long day.
