Mach 2 Moth designer Andrew McDougall today added the McConaghy – KA Sails International Moth Victorian Championships to the Australian Moth title he won earlier this month.

Next step will be the International Moth class world championships at the start of March in Dubai, UAE, where the Victorian sailor hopes to make it a trifecta.

Racing at Audi Victoria Week, McDougall won both of today’s races conducted by Royal Geelong Yacht Club on Corio Bay for the single-hander foiling class in shifty south-easterly wind.

He finished with 11 points for the eight-races series, three points clear of fellow Victorian Lochlin Byrne sailing Mach2 Boats.

McDougall is aged 54 while Byrne is 18. Both were racing Mach 2 Moths designed by McDougall and produced by McConaghy Boats in China. McDougall said the company has now sold 85 of the high-flying foiling craft around the world, including 14 into Australia.

Third overall was Michael Boode of the home club, followed by David Barnes of Latrobe Valley Yacht Club (Vic), sailing Bladerider VRX.
