At 1400 BST today, Saturday 3rd May, 23 year-old British solo offshore sailor, Lizzy Foreman, (@lizzytwigs), set sail in a Mini Transat Qualifier race from Hamble to La Trinité sur Mer on her Mini 6.50 Hudson Wight, as part of a small fleet of two solo and three double-handed entries competing in a 310nm race across to La Trinité in Brittany. These are one of the most exciting classes racing today and are capable of speeds up to 24 knots.
Run by the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble, the Club has provided the starting PRO and the finishing PRO, together with a Royal Southern Event Director co-ordinating all aspects of the Race. The Southern's finishing partner is La Société Nautique de la Trinité sur Mer and one of their race officers will handle the Race finish on Monday fifth or Tuesday 6th May when the boats should arrive in La Trinité. There has also been extensive support from the Classe Mini class association who also sent their representatives to the start.
