Melges 24 Atlantic Coast Championship set to be a stunning regatta

The 2013 Melges 24 Atlantic Coast Championship, being held in conjunction with the Studio Milano's Bacardi Miami Sailing Week, will be nothing short of fantastic as nineteen teams line up for some of the toughest sportboat racing competition in the USA. The event is truly an international affair with four teams representing Italy, Great Britain, Germany and Bermuda, while the remaining fifteen US-based boats span nine states.

'This is such a great regatta.' said Cary Seigler, owner of Rock Steady and former Florida resident. 'The competition will be great for sure. There are at least a nice handful of really good teams here that could win this, so it should be a lot of fun.'

On the ultra-competitive side of the field, Seigler is correct - there are several really powerful teams competing regularly on the highly popular European and North America circuit and that being said, everyone knows that time in the boat can make a huge difference in the Melges 24 Class. The likes of Alec Cutler's Hedgehog, Argyle Campbell's Rock n' Roll and Bruce Ayres' Monsoon all hot and fresh from racing in Key West this past January should be in the running. Also sitting high on the expectation list is none other than 2011 winner Riccardo Simonechi on Audi and Don Wilson's Convexity, proud winner of the 2010 Bacardi Miami Sailing Week.

Registration, weigh-in, practice, regatta preparation and opening ceremonies happen on Wednesday, March 6, with racing taking place Thursday through Saturday (eight races are scheduled). The Melges Skippers meeting will take place at Coconut Grove Sailing Club (GCSC) at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 6th. Over the course of the weekend a grand host of Melges social events are on tap including the Melges Performance Sailing De-Brief Session on Thursday afternoon post racing at GCSC, and the party everyone can't wait to attend - the Melges Rocks! party happens on Friday, March, 8 at 8:30 until at Mr. Moe's in the Grove.
