The Committee of the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria are pleased to announce the Melbourne to Portland race as the first offshore event for season 2013-14 over the Melbourne Cup holiday weekend.
After many requests from members for a change of destination and a new challenge, the Committee decided on Portland based on the facilities available at the new marina and the support of the local Portland Yacht Club, Marina and Local Council.
The Club is a short walk from the Marina and the town just ten minutes away. Portland became Victoria’s first permanent European settlement in 1834 and the town has beautifully maintained heritage buildings, excellent accommodation and great pub fare! Family and friends could enjoy the drive along the Great Ocean Road and greet you at the finish line.
The Race will be a qualifier for the ORCV East and West coast races to Hobart in December 2013 and will replace the Stanley race in 2013. It is intended to hold the Stanley and Portland races on alternating years in the future. Currently, the Stanley port is undergoing an upgrade to the wharf facilities.
Keep an eye on the website for Notice of Race and online entry- coming soon.
