Médaille en chocolat pour Team Tilt à la Red Bull Youth America’s Cup

L’équipage de Team Tilt a représenté la Suisse jusqu’au bout à la Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, puisqu’il ramène la médaille en chocolat (suisse) à la maison. Malgré une frustration évidente suite à l’annulation de la dernière manche comptant double, à cause du vent excédant la limite fixée à 18 noeuds, l’équipe s’est montrée brillante face à des adversaires de taille. Leur victoire lors de la septième manche de la compétition récompense plus de dix mois de préparation.

'Nous sommes déçus de ne pas avoir pu naviguer cette dernière manche,' confie le skipper Lucien Cujean. 'Mais le résultat final et cette dernière victoire sont vraiment exceptionnels pour nous. Les neufs autres équipes avaient à leur bord des navigateurs chevronnés, nous avons réussi à naviguer à leur niveau et en sommes très fiers.'

Le résultat final s’est joué à rien, les jeunes navigateurs suisses terminent à un point du podium. 'Il y a un goût d’inachevé, la compétition s’arrête juste après notre victoire,' avoue Jonas Schagen, numéro 1. 'Nous étions sereins, avons fait de meilleures manoeuvres et avons surtout fait les choses simplement. Cela a payé!'

Lucien Cujean est conscient de la chance qu’il a d’avoir participé à la Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, qui offre un tremplin à ces jeunes navigateurs: 'Ces quatre jours de compétition ont été les plus beaux de ma carrière vélique, aux côtés d’une équipe formidable. Nous en sortons tous grandis, avec une expérience vraiment utile pour la suite de nos carrières.'

Le résultat est d’autant plus satisfaisant que l’équipe est partie d’une feuille blanche pour mettre en place ce projet international. 'Le bilan de cette aventure est vraiment positif,' se réjouit Alex Schneiter, Team Leader. 'Nous nous sommes battus à armes égales face à des stars comme Peter Burling. Cette belle histoire ne va pas s’arrêter là : nous allons maintenant nous concentrer sur le Vulcain Trophy en Décision 35 en Suisse, et discuterons en fin de saison des projets futurs.'


Après quatre jours de régates et sept manches courues dans la baie de San Francisco, la Red Bull Youth America’s Cup est remportée par les néozélandais soutenus par le challenger de l’America’s Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand. Les dix équipes de six navigateurs ont offert un spectacle époustouflant, à la hauteur de la Coupe de l’America qui commencera le 7 septembre prochain.

From the first inkling we had to compete in this event, through the last race on September 4, the past 19 months have been an incredible journey. Mikey Radziejowski summed it up saying 'This has been the best time in my life.'
