Malibu Houston Pro – Top men advance to the semi-finals

by World Wakeboard Association on 5 Oct 2015
WBWS - Malibu Houston Pro presented by Rockstar Energy World Wakeboard Association
Malibu Houston Pro – The pro women wakeboarding semi-finals were first to get behind the Malibu 25 LSV yesterday morning as we saw the top WBWS pro women such as Dallas Friday, Meagan Ethell and Raimi Merritt compete. It didn’t take long before the action began to heat up with all three Friday, Ethell and Merritt putting in phenomenal runs. They will be joined by Larisa Morales, Tarah Mikacich and Ashley Leugner tomorrow to compete for the WBWS title.

With the top two men advancing out of each quarter final heat to the semi-finals the action on the water was impressive, thanks to the incredible wake from the Malibu 25 LSV. Tony Iacconi, Tony Corroll, Dean Smith and Malibu’s Massi Piffaretti all advanced to the semi-finals, where they will be joined by Harley Clifford, Phil Soven, JD Webb, Mike Dowdy, Noah Flegel and Steel Lafferty, who have already prequalified into the semi-finals.

“The new Malibu 25 LSV is awesome, I’ve been looking forward to competing behind the new boat all season,” said Piffaretti. “The 25 LSV’s wake is massive which allowed me to really perform at my full capacity and really have fun.”

The action didn’t stop there as the event continued over at Hanger 9 Cable Park where the riders were also putting on impressive runs with only the top two advancing to the traditional and features pro men semi-finals tomorrow. After a close battle in the women’s pro, it was Meagan Ethell taking her second win of the day claiming the top spot in the cable features pro women qualifying heat.

“The conditions on the lake today were perfect and I’m excited to have won both my boat and cable heats,” said Ethell. “It’s really cool to be able to compete in both competitions in one day and really push myself to the limits.”

To top the day off fans were entertained by a jaw dropping Rockstar Energy Kicker Contest where we saw Tom Fooshee land an Indy KGB 540 to grab first place followed closely by Chandler Powell and Jake Pelot to round off the podium.

Semi-finals and finals will begin today at the Hanger 9 Cable Park followed up by the pro men and women WBWS championship finals over on the Bel-Ray Action Sports Park.
