The inaugural Magnetic Island Race Week starts on 1st September and all eligible yachts are invited to join the fleet in the newest and richest event on the national sailing calendar.

To be sailed on the waters around Cleveland Bay beautiful Magnetic Island, the event spans the weekend of September 1st – 3rd, 2006 and follows closely on the heals of the Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island events.

This year offers you the rare opportunity to be part of something special – the first ever event. As Magnetic Island Race Week quickly grows to become a popular and signature event on the racing scene, it would be nice to say 'I was there at the start'.

The inagural event offers four classes of racing over three days, with an expanded program planned in future years. The Townsville Cruising Yacht Club is hosting and running the event and Townsville's magnificent Strand waterfront development has given Townsville a whole new face and with it, a revitalisation and invigoration that now sees this North Queensland giant regularly winning awards such as 'Community of the Year' and 'The Best place to Live in Australia'.

This reinvention of Townsville has also been reflected in the business and commercial growth in the region. This development is never more evident than on beautiful Magnetic Island – once a sleepy holiday home of beautiful beaches and quirky village-like residential areas. Magnetic Island now maintains that beautiful setting, but has welcomed fantastic resort style development, particularly at Nelly Bay Harbour – the home of the Magnetic Island Race Week.

The Island features secluded beaches, first class resort style accommodation, great restaurants and fantastic vantage points to watch the racing.

If you would like to watch the racing you can follow the day's activities on one of the Supporter’s Craft – air-conditioned fully catered catamarans or sit ashore in the Race Week Marquee which will offer viewing of the Harbour and the open race course. A fully stocked bar and catering service will operate in the Race Marquee all weekend and it will be the place to be at the end of each day’s sailing.

Each night will offer post racing presentations followed by social events ranging from a BBQ Dinner at the Magnetic International, a spectacular night on the mainland at Townsville’s beautiful Strand and on Sunday night the post Race Week Closing Party at the Harbour.

Getting around on the Harbour will be easy with shuttle busses around the marina, ample docking for tender craft and busses around the Island.

Come back to Australia by a quick Sunferries trip (20 mins) and Townsville will offer you top class restaurants and activities.

Nominations close online on the 25th August and the Notice to Race and Entry Forms can be downloaded from www.maggieraceweek.com.au
