On day 4 of the Laser National Championships at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Manly, Queensland Tom Burton had another successful day, winning both races in the Laser full rig.

Conditions were lighter than previous days with 12 to 14 knots from the south. Ryan Palk maintained his second place overall with an eleventh and a fourth.

Ashley Brunning also had a strong day moving up to third overall with two second places. 'It was not as close as the other days today; I had a bit of a lead in both races,' Burton said. 'Even though Palkie didn’t have the greatest day, one of those he will just drop and the other one wasn’t too bad. t all comes down to the last day. With two drops it’s hard to calculate [the results] now, but I’m sitting good.'

In the Radials, Tristan Brown and Jeremy O’Connell continue to dominate their respective fleets with Brown winning both races in the blue fleet and O’Connell winning the first race and placing fourth in the second in the yellow fleet.

Today was the last day of racing before the Radial finals and both sailors look forward to Gold Fleet racing tomorrow.

The two last raced against each other in the World Laser Radial Men’s Championship earlier this year in France where Brown finished fourth and O’Connell tenth.

'It will be good to race Jeremy tomorrow. I don’t see why I can’t beat him. I have good speed and I’ve been making good decisions.' Brown said.

O’Connell was happy with his performance today and hopes to continue his consistent sailing. 'It was good sailing today with tight fleets and the top five boats were close both races. Tristan and I haven’t raced against each other yet. I’m looking forward to it. We’re pretty close on points.'

Jack Felsenthal had another successful day in the 4.7 fleet with a first and a seventh, maintaining his overall winning spot. 'In the first race I managed to get a good start and got around the top mark a fair way ahead and kept that all around the course and finished first. In the second race I didn’t have such a good start. I had dirty air and couldn’t get a lane for a long time. I struggled and was 18th around the top mark. I just clawed my way back and got seventh. I got three boats on the last leg. I’m pretty happy with that,' Felsenthal said.

Felsenthal’s day has widened the gap between yesterday’s second overall placeholder Megan Darby who had a disappointing day with a 17th and a 19th, knocking her back to third place. Benjamin Knoop moved into second overall placing sixth and ninth today, the ninth counting as one of his drops.
