Kieler Woche 2011 is being held between 18 and 26 June 2011 in Kiel, Germany.

Thomas Strandberg from Sweden finally took the title in the Farr 30 Europeans after a string of first places. Local skipper Harald Brüning with Topaz wanted to attack in the last races but failed after a fierce collision. 'The competitor was a little bit over motivated and caused a big hole in our boat,' said Brüning. 'We are happy that we could finish the race at least.'

Multiple World Champion Christan Soyka lost his lead in the X99 Gold-Cup after eight races. Martin Christiansen took over from him with a 12/1/4 score today. But both competitors have to look back at Per Jungerson from Denmark who is approaching fast in the lighter wind conditions today with a solid 4/2/2 series.

The 17 international classes enjoyed the moderate and sunny conditions as well. Especially Wolfgang Hunger and Julien Kleiner showed again good pace in the 505 class. They struggled in the first race of the day with a 10th place but expanded their lead with 3/1 to seven points compared to Schomäker/Jess who won the first race of the day. Ex world champion Jan Saugmann from Denmark is missing ten points to the lead.

In the Contender class multiple World Champion Andrea Bonezzi is struggling in the 53 boat strong fleet. He is already 20 points short for winning Kieler Woche again although still sitting on third position. Christoph Homeier from Bremen the bronze medallist from the last worlds is showing a strong performance. His lead has grown to nine points against Sören Dulong Andreasen from Denmark.

Ex World Champion and international class president Jan von der Bank said about his sixth place: 'It is very difficult for me. I did not train much and this is not enough anymore because the quality of the fleet has risen a lot.' Homeier said: 'I did training sessions two to three times a week in Kiel and with the Danish team in Copenhagen.'

In the Formula-18-Catamaran Class Helge and Christian Sach lost the first races today but after six wins and two second places they lead comfortably from Andreas John and Sven Lindstädt in the 23 boat fleet. Helge Sach said: 'This was a perfect day on the water.' Kieler Woche website
