Interview with Derek Hatfield on the Daily Planet

Derek Hatfield
Derek Hatfield, Skipper of the ECO 60 Spirit of Canada in an interview on February 4th, 2010 in studio with Jay Ingram of Daily Planet on Discovery Channel.

Derek talks about the newly formed 'ECO 60' Class of race boat that promotes sustainability and renewable energy. This new class will make its premiere debut in the VELUX 5 Oceans solo race around the world starting in October of 2010; Hatfield is the only Canadian in the race.

Derek and Spirit of Canada are attempting another first for Canada; to be the first to ever race around the world without the use of fossil fuels. Using only solar, wind and water to generate enough electricity to charge the batteries and run the instruments on the boat.
