Sail-World.com : Hood Sails for Sydney 36CR’s

Hood Sails for Sydney 36CR’s

'Sydney 47CR Wot’s Next won the Savills 2005 regatta and her Hobart divison with Hood Sails.'    Crosbie Lorimer
The owners of the first three Sydney 36CR’s to be delivered to Pittwater and Sydney Harbour have all chosen Hood Sails for their new boats.

Hoods Sails Australia will be supplying an assortment of carbon, Kevlar and Pentex sails for these new IRC competitive cruiser-racers.

The first two Sydney 36CR’s will be delivered prior to the start of the season to CYCA and RSYS owners with the third boat going to the RPAYC.

Designed as a club level cruiser racer, the first boats are all going to owners coming out of similar sized boats and owners looking to enjoy social, club and some IRC racing with friends.

Hoods Sails Australia’s Ian Broad commented yesterday; ‘From Sydney Yachts Custom 60’s, to 47CR’s, 39CR’s, 38OD, 36CR and 32OD’s - we’ve made sails for the whole range of them. Graham Wood's 47CR won the Savills regatta and her Hobart division with our sails.

‘Each of these three Sydney 36CR’s are set up differently and the sails are therefore quite diverse in style.

‘One of our great strengths is the breadth and diversity of our business; we are busy making sails for One Design racers and cruiser racers but at the other end of the spectrum we’ve just completed a mainsail for a whale watching cat up in Port Stephens.

Sydney 36 Amante - BMW Sydney Winter Series 2004 -  Dennis Cooper

'We are making a broad range of sails from Carbon D4 to cruising Dacron and we must be doing something right, the third of the 36CR’s we are providing sails for is Denis Cooper. We made his first sail in 1974 and we've made sails right through to his 36 Amante and now his new 36CR.

‘We’ve just delivered identical mainsails for two Volvos and the Kookaburra Group use our sails for their racing.

‘We have just finished a new drifter for the Young Endeavour, that completed the full set, now we’ve delivered everything from drifter to orange storm trysails.

'We work hard to deliver very durable cruising sails, we pay at lot of attention to stiching, spreader patches, reefing points. Probably one of the best gauges of our success in this area is the strong support amongst the Whitsunday charter operators. They come to Hood Sails Australia because they know our cruising sails just keen going, season after season.
