Heaven Can Wait – Sunrise 2011

by Heaven Can Wait media on 1 Oct 2011
Dawn before Heaven Can Wait 2011l Heaven Can Wait Media
The sixth annual Heaven Can Wait One lap Dash and 24 Hour Race starts in less than five hours, with a fleet of around 55 boats expected to face the starter’s gun on Australia's largest salt water lake, Lake Macquarie, 90 minutes north of Sydney.

Principal Race Officer Blake Middleton was up early and on the deck of the Royal Motor Yacht Club, on the western shore of the Lake at Toronto. He was looking at the weather predictions online while enjoying a glorious sunrise.

He said ‘Last Weekend I was running the Sonar North Americans on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota, now I am 9,000 miles away at the 2011 Heaven Can Wait Regatta, on Lake Macquarie in Australia.

‘Both places we had beautiful sunrises. I am privileged to be back here for the sixth year in a row. Not sure just what the weather will bring us today.

‘The two weather models are quite different for our 11am start. One has 6-8 knots and the other windless. But in both cases conditions will build quite rapidly in the afternoon and we could have quite strong conditions later in the day.

‘We are certainly looking at plenty of breeze for the second half of the 24 hour race.’

'We have enjoyed very strong support in the last 24 hours for our Virtual Race, with donations coming from around the world for our Mens Cancer cause. We trust there will be lots and lots of donations today.'

More news soon from Lake Macquarie.
