Final two spots on ilovesailing calendar claimed

by Emma Slater on 29 Aug 2013
SW
Nick Wake from Kenilworth, Warwickshire and James Curtis from Guildford, Surrey have claimed the final two places on the first ever ilovesailing calendar which goes on sale at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September.

Chosen from amongst a whopping 91 entries Nick and James’s pictures caught the judges eyes and claimed the final places on the 2014 calendar.

Nick’s amazing photo was taken at Draycote Water SC during one of the Wednesday evening races, he comments: 'Woo hoo! I am really delighted that my picture was chosen for the calendar. I also feel very privileged since the standard of entries has been very high.

'The night was perfect for photos - a setting sun and a force 4-5. I was out in a RIB following the racing and was 'in the right place at the right time'. Both crew and helm are working hard to keep the boat flat and fast, with the boat kicking up spray which is caught by the sun. The crew is flat out on the wire and you can just see his head and arms silhouetted in the sail.'

While James explains more about his great action shot: 'The photo was taken at Island Barn RSC, in a 29er using a GoPro black edition which was taking photos every five seconds!'

As well as a spot on the calendar Nick and James also claim tickets to the PSP Southampton Boat Show when they will presented with their copy of the 2014 calendar as it comes hot of the press, a canvas print of their winning photo, as well as clinching their very own, and now much coveted, blue ilovesailing rubber duck.

'We has so many amazing entries to go through this month making the judging a long and difficult process. For us both images really captured the action of sailing and were lovely to look at making them perfect additions to the calendar', commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. 'We now have all our winners and everyone is really excited to see the in final calendar in all its glory.'

Despite the calendar competition being closed for this year the ilovesailing page is still showcasing peoples favourite sailing photos and running its very popular weekly caption competition, giving you a chance to share your funny, clever and witty captions in a bid to win an ilovesailing duck.

'ilovesailing has proved really popular this year and we have loads of people getting involved in the caption competition each week posting some very funny captions indeed. It’s also great to receive photos from our winners of their ducks in their new homes and seeing everyone’s amazing boating photos', explains Emma.

The 2014 ilovesailing calendar will be on sale at the PSP Southampton Boat Show 2013 on the RYA Stand (EO37) were the first 50 people to purchase a copy will also receive a 2013 ilovesailing rubber duck.
