The 2015 Ficker Cup ISAF Grade 2 match race is set for May 8-10, 2015. Winners of the California Dreamin’ Series, the Governor’s Cup and the US Match Racing Championship will be invited and applications will be accepted for up to seven invitations to fill the rest of the field.

Hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club the teams will use the Long Beach Sailing Foundation’s Catalina 37s which will be sailed in the 2015 Congressional Cup ISAF Grade 1 match race, May 13-17.

In 2014, the Ficker Cup was awarded to Phil Robertson of Auckland, New Zealand for winning Stage One of the 50th Anniversary Congressional Cup getting him into Stage Two with the top match racers in the world.

Next May, the top two finishers in the Ficker Cup will be given invitations to compete in the Congressional Cup… just two days later.

Skippers interested in an invitation to the 2015 Ficker Cup should email their request to event chair Rick Brizendine at rickbrizendine@yahoo.com.

The Ficker Cup was established by LBYC in 1980 to honor Bill Ficker, world class Star champion in the 50s and winner of the 1970 American’s Cup as skipper of the 12-meter class yacht, Intrepid. During Intrepid’s 1970 America’s Cup campaign, the phrase 'Ficker is quicker' was coined --- later changed to 'Ficker was quicker' when he beat Gretel II to win the cup.
