Farr 40 European Circuit - Settimana delle Bocche, Porto Cervo.

Nerone, Fiamma and Enfant Terrible continue to dominate the top spots among the Farr 40s gathered in Porto Cervo for the Settimana delle Bocche from 29th June to 2nd July. Following yesterday's enforced rest day caused by more than 30 knots of Mistral wind blowing off the north-east coast of Sardinia, the one-design yachts enjoyed spectacular racing off Porto Cervo today.

The north-westerly breeze calmed just enough to allow the fleet, competing in the second leg of the European Circuit organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, to complete three races which showcased the speed and agility of these craft at their best.

With a breeze that built from 15 to 22 knots over the course of the afternoon, the first race of the day - Race four of the series - saw the Turkish crew aboard Provezza 8 add a first place to their results as they crossed the finish line in the lead. The Turkish boat, owned by Levent Peynirci, was closely followed by Alessandro Barnaba's Fiamma while Alberto Rossi's Enfant Terrible took third place.

In race five, the seven competing teams tore round the seven mile course in well under an hour and former world champion Nerone, owned by Massimo Mezzaroma and Antonio Sodo Migliori, was back on top form to lead the fleet ahead of Italian rivals Fiamma and Enfant Terrible respectively. This victory takes Nerone to a total of three bullets in the series so far.

A significant windshift affected the entire fleet during the last upwind leg of the final race of the day. By this stage the wind had built to 20 to 22 knots approximately and the 20° shift to the left combined with choppy seas and strong gusts put the crews' technical abilities to the test. Enfant Terrible suffered as a result of a spinnaker blow-out and finished at the back of the group while Wolfgang Schaefer's Struntje Light (GER) made the best of the situation and took her first victory of the event. Nerone, with Vasco Vascotto on tactics took second place and Fiamma was third.

Heading into the final day of racing, with a maximum of four races left to complete and no discard being applied, Nerone leads Fiamma by three points overall with Enfant Terrible a further four points behind.

Racing is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, 2nd July with the first start at 11 a.m. This evening owners will attend the official presentation of 'The Fabulous 40s', which details the history of the class over the past 15 years, at the YCCS Clubhouse.
