Etchells racing in the earlier Italian Championships SW
Etchells World Championship 2013 Yacht Club Cala de Medici, Rosignano Marittimo, Italy. Two races were completed on Day 3. Westerlies turning to north westerlies as the day progressed. The winds were 10-12 for the first race and 12-15 for the second race. With five races competed, the race discard now comes into play. In the first race of the day (the fourth one of the series) the Swiss entry skippered by Seamus McHugh (with the 2007 world champion Andy Beadsworth as tactician and Simon Fry as crew) took the lead at the top mark and was unchallenged to take the gun. Second across the line was Peter Duncan (USA) and Beckmann. The second race was tougher than the first one with crowded mark roundings resulted then in a lot of protests: winner of the race was American Argyle Campbell in USA 1375 with crew Robert Kinney and Jamie Hardenbergh. The 2004 World Champion Australia´s Peter McNeil was second ahead of Bekhmann. After five races, one discard, the leader of the general provisional results is still 'The Martian' USA 1378, skippered by Marvin Beckman with crew Steve Hunt and Ezra Culver, continues to lead the fleet posting a pair of thirds today. Second is McHugh while Hong Kong sailor and European champion Ante Razmilovich is on third place. Tomorrow two more races starting from noon, with two more races the following day.
