Thursday 30th May, 2002 (9.30pm) Position 32 53S, 169 11E (not far away from the last update!)
Solo Global Challenger is presently 914nm away from Mooloolaba and spent this afternoon doing the marine equivalent of 'donuts'. Slow and painful 360 degree turns (involuntarily) because there is no wind and that leads to a subsequent lack of steerage. I lost count at 17!
Meanwhile there was/is a 1-1.5 knot current pushing me backwards! From 8.00am-5.00pm, I managed a net gain of 10 miles. You bloody beauty! In the end I gave up (I hate doing this) furled the headsail, strapped the main down and went to bed. I woke up an hour or so ago to a gentle NE so up with the spinnaker and off I go again. Suddenly the world's a better place.
Still beats mowing the lawn or doing the weeding!
