At the Delta Lloyd Regatta, US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider athletes were competing in the final day of racing in Medemblik, The Netherlands. Top performance of the week came from Anne Haeger and Briana Provancha, who captured a silver medal in Women’s 470. Racing took place May 21-25 in the 10 Olympic and three Paralympic classes selected for the Rio 2016 Games.

The format at Delta Lloyd was modified after the final ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Hyeres, France last month. With one final medal race, the top six boats advanced from the final series of races. Their overall position carried over, but the points would not be added to the score line and only the one race counted for the final position.

Haeger and Provancha were in medal contention and with a smaller fleet and shorter target racing time they had one shot to hold their spot on the podium. With overcast skies and a northwest, moderate wind condition, the duo got off the line and played an advantage to round the first weather mark ahead of the fleet.

As the race wore on it was a battle between Haeger and Provancha with New Zealand’s 2012 gold medalists Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie. They were neck and neck around the course, just pipped at the finish line by six seconds to take second in the race and overall.

Caleb Paine finished in fourth place in the very competitive Finn class, tied on points with third-placed Andrew Mills (GBR). Mark Andrews (GBR) and Pieter-Jan Postma (NED) finished first and second, respectively.
