Dehler 38 C wins a double championship

Dehler 38 Competition wins double championship Thorben Will
The Dehler 38 C 'Sporthotel', a serial vessel equipped for competition, achieves a double victory: 2013 German Champion Inshore and Offshore

The championship was held on the Baltic Sea while international 'Warnemünder Woche'. The inshore competition was in six up and down races and offshore in three distance races with the 260-sea miles round Bornholm race.

Time for preparation and measurement according to ORCi2 was tight because it was only at the end of May that the yacht left the production line at the dockyard in Greifswald. After a short training phase with good results (Kiel Week: second place in the Kiel Cup Series; victory in the long haul round around the Baltic Sea island of Rügen), owner and helmsman Karl Dehler, project manager for Dehler 38 and his crew of family and friends entered the tournament. The 'Sporthotel' won the inshore title with the placements two-one-one-one-six-two and the offshore title with the placements one-two-four.

The double victory in the measurement class ORCi2 is proof that the new Dehler 38 is a perfectly successful construction with a very wide performance profile. The standard model is a performance-cruiser with up-to-date lines and a balanced displacement- and sail area distribution. The aim was to design a fast yacht with a large range of stability to be sailed safely by a small crew and offering a high degree of comfort below deck with an extremely innovative seaworthy layout. At the same time, the Dehler 38 was to be capable of being quickly converted to a competitive regatta yacht.

In cooperation with one of the most successful construction offices in the world, Judel/Vrolijk & Co., a yacht was developed that allows a modified performance profile through selection of various keels, rudders and rig variants as well as the corresponding race fittings and electronics.

The Dehler champion yacht, the 'Sporthotel' corresponds to the Dehler 38 serial design in the design of the deck and interior. The lower displacement compared to the standard model (ca. 440 kilos) arises through the lighter but more effective competition keel (iron/plumb and 2,20 m draught), a ruder with performance profiling and the carbon rig as well as, in the competition variant, easy furniture disassembly in the bow and stern.

Although Dehler yachts have sailed to victory in many regattas in the 50-year history of the shipyard, the Dehler team is especially proud of this double championship victory. The Dehler has been nominated for the European Yacht of the Year 2014 competition in the Performance Cruiser class.
