Clipper Race 2013-14 - Home welcome for Kong Chian

by Clipper Ventures on 16 Feb 2014
Home welcome for Kong Chian - Clipper Round The World Yacht Race 2103-14 Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race
There were emotional reunions between family, friends and loved ones who made various lengthy journeys from all corners of the world to welcome their loved ones back to land but one crew member’s family had just a very short trip to make.

Kong Chian Toh, 26 is the only current crew member on the race from Singapore. The health care professional joined Mission Performance in Brisbane and will continue on to China before also completing the Pacific Ocean leg to San Francisco race.

After Kong Chian was greeted by his proud parents, brother and young nephews, he commented on his 33 day long Clipper Race experience: 'The race was really quite challenging but the crew members on board showed me what to do and helped ease me into it all to make ocean sailing much easier.

'At the start we had many storms. It was quite scary. Further on the wind just died. It was then a more mental challenge and everyone had to concentrate and try to get as much wind as we could. It was a good race with many elements.
'It’s very exciting to be back here in Singapore and to see my family. I can’t wait for all the great food here, and of course to sleep in my own bed again, briefly.'

Race 9 to Qingdao, China departs on Wednesday 19th February.
