Victory 3’s potentially historic ‘grand slam’ winning season has been turned upside down and inside out following the disqualification of Nadir bin Hendi from the Italian Grand Prix, resulting in the loss of the European title and the overall lead the World Championship standings.

The news, issued in a communication from Kimon Papachristopoulos, chairman of the UIM anti-doping hearing panel, reads: please be informed that following an Adverse Analytic Finding in the In-Competition Anti–Doping testing during the Class 1 World Championship event of Cernobbio, Italy 15th-16th October 2011, Mr. Nadir Bin Hendi / boat n° 3, is disqualified from all results/ points obtained in the races and other competitions at that event.

Mr. Nadir Bin Hendi remains provisional suspended.

The disqualification and loss of all points hands the European title and the lead in the race for the World title to Spirit of Qatar 96’s Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani and Steve Curtis, with the maximum points and the win in race 1 in Cernobbio awarded to Ali Al Neama and Matteo Nicolini - Spirit of Qatar 95 – and in race 2 to Poliform’s Italian duo of Guido Cappellini and Giampaolo Montavoci.

The decision also puts the Spirit of Qatar 95 pairing into a three point lead in the Edox Pole Position Championship in front of Team Abu Dhabi with Victory 3 relegated to third spot.

Sheikh Hassan and Steve Curtis arrived in Dubai facing a 26-point deficit in the title race but now head into this morning’s final qualifying session of the season with a 12-point advantage in the Championship standings over their teammates with their rivals Victory 3 24 points down and in third spot.
