A record 32 boats and 175 anglers landing nearly 2,000 pounds of wahoo competed in the Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina’s second season Wahoo Smackdown III two-day tournament this past weekend.
Taking home over $7,500 in cash and prizes for top team (193.8 pounds of wahoo) and largest catch (51.6 pounds) was Captain Edward Garcia and team Brizzo Fishing from Coral Gables, Florida.
Team Time Less of West Palm Beach Captained by Tristen Hunt took second place team honors ($1,500) with 189.8 pounds. Finishing third with 152.1 pounds was Fishin’ a Loan captained by Kevin Marsh of Palm Coast, Florida winning $1,000.
Overall, according to tournament director Capt. Paul Cameron, more than $60,000 in cash and prizes were awarded. Documenting the action was legendary angler Larry Dahlberg, whose 'The Hunt For Big Fish' airs on the NBC Sports Network.
'There was an incredible turnout of anglers and despite some high winds the first day, everyone had a great time competing and enjoying the camaraderie of fishermen and fisherwomen,' said Michael Weber, BBGC General Manager. 'Along with our great food and drink this made for a record breaking weekend for the Big Game Club’s Wahoo Smackdown III.'
Weber said the Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina will be hosting another wahoo tournament in February 2014.
