Big Boats and Sportsboats for Warsash Spring Series
by Flavia Bateson on 22 Mar 2007
The Raymarine Warsash Spring Series is well underway and Sunday racing will soon be augmented by Saturday events for Big Boats and Sportsboats. The Big Boat Series starts on 31 March and involves two weekends, with ten races in all, over 31 March/1 April and 21/22 April.
Class BB1 is for IRC boats rating from 1.140 to 1.240 and displacement-length ratio 160 or less. 10 boats are already entered. A second class will comprise Beneteau First 40.7s with an IRC rating of 1.079 or less. They will be competing level, not on handicap, with a maximum 12 people on each boat.
The Spring Championship for sportsboats starts a little later, on 14 April. Here there will be classes for Laser SB3s, J/80s, Hunter 707s and mixed sportsboats. The Laser SB3s will have a separate start line and courses.
Warsash Sailing Club hopes to run 14 races in all over the two weekends - 14/15 April and 21/22 April. To date there are 78 boats entered but there’s room for plenty more and hopefully there should be no threat of snow by then!
