The Bayview Yacht Club Bayview Yacht Club - Detroit http://www.bayviewriverfest.com
On May 3rd, Bayview Yacht Club will be opening its doors and kicking the Detroit sailing season into high gear. We call it 'Opening Day and Fitting-Out Party', but what you really need to know is if you want to get more involved in the sport of sailing, learn more about a one-design fleet, or just go for a sail on someone else's boat, this is your big chance.

We will have participation from most of the local one-design fleets including Etchells 22, Cal 25s, 36.7s, J-120s, T-10s, Lightning, U-20s and many more. We will also have some hot new boats like the J-70 on-hand to check out. If sailing from dry land is more your speed or if your kids have been bugging you to get a RC sailboat, there will be a full RC demo fleet available to test out too.

Objective of Event: To promote all things sailing to anyone interested in getting more active in any aspect of our sport - what kind of sailing we do, and how you can get involved.

1:00 - 1:30 Recreational sailing and an introduction to RC sailboats

1:30 - 2:00 Sailing and Seamanship Class for individuals aged 15-18

2:00 - 3:00 One-design fleets from 20 inch RC boats to 40 footers with representatives giving

- Quick presentations and answering questions about their class. Presentations will
- Be ordered by length of boat starting with the smallest.
- The PHRF racing rule will also be covered in this section for people who are
- Not interested in one-design boats.

3:00 - 4:30 One-design and RC demo sails along with hands-on boat tours

3:00 - 3:30 Learn how to volunteer and find out how the crew exchange works

3:30 - 4:00 Race committee introduction and orientation

4:00 - 4:30 Introduction to Bayview's Public Adult Sailing Program

The Bayview Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program will also be running a gear swap and fun games like Opti Golf all day. At 5:30 support the Junior Program with some Après Sail at the Annual Fitting-Out Party, grab a beverage and a burger while you watch the Kentucky Derby with some new or old friends on the big screen.
