Aussie sailors aiming for Triple crown

by Media Services on 22 May 2006
Beijing Olympic medal aspirants Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby have kicked off their quest for a triple crown of world sailing titles in just eight months by winning the ISAF world multihull title in Austria

Just five months after joining forces for the first time as an Olympic combination. Bundock and Ashby won the ISAF world sailing crown on Lake Neusiedl in Austria

It was the fifth major regatta the pair have won since teaming up to race the Tornado Catamaran class at the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing

In Austria the pair were racing a Hobie Cat Tiger and went in to the final medal race with a hefty 14 point lead with their second in the decider clinching them the 2006 ISAF world multihull title

The win has confirmed the pair are on track to dominate a string of upcoming regattas. including the famous Holland Regatta from May 24 to 28, the Round Texel race from June 14 to 17, Kiel Week Olympic class regatta from June 21 to 26, the F18 world championships in July, the Tornado European tiles in July and then the pre Olympic test event in China in August

A major goal for Bundock, from Lake Macquarie NSW, and Ashby, Melbourne, Victoria, in 2006 is to claim three world titles in three separate classes in less than eight months

With the ISAF title in the bag, the pair will now work towards also claiming victory in the F18 worlds in Hyères (July) and the all important world Tornado catamaran crown in Argentina from December 2 to 9

Daily updates will be sent following racing at Holland Regatta
