Audi Etchells Worlds Race 7 – Goddard wins, Bertrand falls back

Glorious blue sky, with puffy cumulus around Port Phillip.

The AP came down ashore at 12.45. Winds gusting up to eight knots at the committee boat, from around 180-185, so Race Officer Ross Wilson started the Audi World Champion fleet at 1335 in Race 7. Course 2 175 degrees 2.0 mil first beat.

The fleet favoured the right side of the course on the first beat.

The wind was building all the way up the leg and was gustied to 11 knots by the time the leader Mark Doyle from Pittwater, Sydney rounded ahead of Queensland's James Dagge and Rob Goddard (GBR).

Jason Muir who was second overall had another great start, seventh overall at the top mark. Damien King (AUS) was ninth and Chris Busch (USA), 10th. Championship leader John Bertrand rounded in 13th.

In the end, Goddard (Rag Time) and crew Anthony Thackray and Guy McGregor who won Race 7, from Mark Doyle (Miramar - crew Travis Tubman, Kyrra Deane and David Hayes) with David Lawrance (Temptress - crew Rodney Browne and Barry Hawkes) in third. Then came James Dagge (Una Mas), Allan Sandy (White Pointer), Chris Busch (Happy Ending) and Damien King (Barry).

Jason Muir (Magpie) finished in ninth place, ahead of series leader John Bertrand (Triad) in 12th.
