At the Asia Pacific Student Cup 2013 day two saw sunny clear weather and winds ranging from three to 10 knots. The day started with 90-degree oscillating wind shifts that proved challenging for both race officials as well as racers. Top marks were constantly being changed due to the fickle-minded wind and sailors were left keeping up with their competitors and the course changes.
Thankfully, the wind got more consistent after lunch and more racing got underway in the afternoon. As the wind picked up in the early afternoon, so did the excitement on water as boats got more aggressive and shouts of protest got louder. Unfortunately the good winds did not last long and the day ended slightly earlier due to the lack of breeze in the final few flights of the day.
With only a couple more flights left in the round-robin, the scoreboard seems to be shaping up. At the top after day 2 is Calvin Lim from Singapore Management University with nine wins out of 11. Despite two losses today, Justin Liu’s perfect score yesterday puts him close behind with 8 wins out of 10. In third place is Daniella Ng with seven wins from nine races. A damaged boat in the previous flight had her sit out in one of her matches but will race the match tomorrow when the round robin continues.
Tomorrow will mark the last day of the round-robin after which the top few teams will advance to the next stage of the regatta. More on water drama is expected tomorrow as the teams fight it out for their place in the next stage.
