Der Saint Petersburg Yacht Club (SPBYC) und der Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) stellen das neue Format des Nord Stream Race vor. Mitte September 2013 werden über 800 Seemeilen nonstop die gesamte Ostsee von Flensburg / Glücksburg (Deutschland) nach Saint Petersburg (Russland) durchmessen. Das Rennen wird ohne Zwischenstop für die Gazprom Swan60 Class und Yachten mit ORC Vermessung ausgeschrieben.

Der Startschuss wird in der großartigen Kulisse vor Glücksburg fallen. Die Route wird Bornholm auf der Ostseite passieren und von dort der Nord Stream Pipeline ans nordöstliche Ende der Ostsee folgen. Die Ziellinie liegt wenige Meilen vor Saint Petersburg.

Eine Match Race-Veranstaltung der Gazprom Swan60 Class wird am Donnerstag, den 12. September mit spannenden Szenen in der Segelarena der Flensburger Förde die Veranstaltung eröffnen. An diesem Tag wird das Race Village auch für die Öffentlichkeit geöffnet sein. Um den einzigartigen Spirit der Flensburger Fördewoche aufzunehmen, wird die traditionsreiche Regatta des Blau-Gelben Bandes in der ORC Wertung als Inshore Regatta gewertet. Der erste Start des eigentlichen Rennens beginnt am Sonntag, den 15. September für die ORC Division B. Am folgenden Montag startet die ORC Division A, gefolgt von der Gazprom Swan60 Klasse.

'Das Nord Stream Race etabliert sich als aufregendes jährliches Rennen mit einem für die Ostsee ganz neuen Format. Unser Ziel ist es alle Nationen zu begeistern, die an der Nord Stream Pipeline beteiligt sind.' sagte Ullrich Lissek, Director of Communication Nord Stream.

'Ohne Zwischenstopp an einer 800 Seemeilen langen Regatta im Herbst der nördlichen Hemisphäre teilzunehmen ist eine große Herausforderung. Nach etwa vier bis sechs Segeltagen vor Saint Petersburg die Ziellinie zu überqueren wird atemberaubend sein.' sagt Alan Green, NRV Principal Race Officer und blickt auf das druckfrische Notice of Race.

Die ORC Trophy wurde eingeführt, um den aktiven ORC Zirkus der Ostsee anzusprechen. Für alle Teilnehmer der Flensburger Fördewoche ist genügend Zeit eingeplant, um das Boot und die Crew auf diese Langstrecke vorzubereiten. Die Veranstalter werden darüber hinaus bei den Einreiseformalitäten nach Russland unterstützen. Zusätzlich plant der NRV eine vereinsübergreifende Crew-Börse für die Eigner, die ihre Yacht wieder zu ihrem Heimathafen zurückbringen möchten.

Der Flensburger Segel-Club (FSC) wird den Start des Rennens unterstützen, das entlang den Gewässern von Deutschland, Polen, Dänemark, Litauen, Lettland, Estland, Finnland und schließlich Russland führt. Das Rennen wird Teilnehmer aus ganz Europa zusammen bringen. Tim Kröger, Skipper des Team Europe des Nord Stream Race 2012: 'Die Regatta ist eine tolle Idee und eine große Herausforderung für die Teilnehmer. Wie aufregend diese Regatta sein kann haben wir durch die extrem knappen Zieleinläufe in der ersten Auflage gezeigt. Mit Westwind kann die Zweite eine sehr schnelle Reise werden, aber mit Wind aus Ost oder Nordost wird es ein Kampf. Ich freue mich sehr darauf, wieder Teil dieser Regatta zu sein, die alle Voraussetzungen erfüllt, ein Klassiker in der Ostsee zu werden. Ich freue mich auf eine großartige Veranstaltung, die den Westen mit dem Osten Europas verbindet!'

Henning Rocholl, NRV Geschäftsführer ergänzt, 'wir hoffen, dass die Teilnehmer eine respektable Zeit für dieses Rennen vorlegen, die das World Sailing Speed Record Council offiziell listen wird.'

Der Wanderpreis der Gazprom Swan60 Klasse wurde vom Saint Petersburg Yacht Club gestiftet. Der Wanderpreis für die ORC Flotte wird in einem Wettbewerb zwischen deutschen und russischen Künstlern hergestellt, der im März vorgestellt wird. Die Vision von verschiedenen europäischen Teams, die auf den Swan60 Yachten ihre jeweilige Nation vertreten, wird weiter verfolgt. Die Swan60 können vom Saint Petersburg Yachtclub gechartert werden. Das Nord Stream Race wird jährlich mit entgegengesetztem Kurs ausgetragen. Die ursprüngliche Regatta verlief 2012 südwärts, während die diesjährige Regatta nach Norden führt. Dieser zweijährige Turnus steht für das gemeinsame Verständnis der Veranstalter und Partner ein nachhaltiges Hochseerennen auszurichten.

Vladimir Liubomirov, Präsident des SPBYC, sagte 'Unser Ziel ist es ein international anerkanntes Langstreckenrennen in der Ostsee zu entwickeln, das die europäischen Ostseeanrainerstaaten zusammenbringt und den internationalen Segelsport in der Ostsee entwickelt und zu einer besseren Integration im Baltikum führt. Den ersten Schritt haben wir 2012 gemacht und nun ist der Kurs für die Zukunft gesetzt. Wir sind mehr als glücklich mit unserem Partnerclub NRV einen Veranstalter für das Nord Stream Race gefunden zu haben. Wir wollen beide den Offshore Segelsport in der Ostsee fördern und für die Teilnehmer eine unvergessliche Regatta entwickeln.'

'Der NRV ist begeistert eine jährlich stattfindende Regatta im Ostseeraum zu veranstalten. Wir sind in die Nordseewoche involviert, die größte Offshore Veranstaltung in Deutschland und wir haben zahlreiche transatlantische Regatten organisiert. Der SPBYC entwickelt sich zu einem Top Segelverein in Europa. Die Partnerschaft der beiden Clubs ist sehr harmonisch.' sagte Andreas Christiansen, Präsident des NRV.

Die größte Herausforderung dieser Regatta ist das Datum. Segeln in der Ostsee kann im Herbst sehr anspruchsvoll sein. Aus diesem Grund wird der Bekleidungspartner Marinepool seine Kompetenz mit in das Rennen einbringen. Sowohl der NRV als auch der SPBYC pflegen eine gute Beziehung zu Robert Stark, Marinepool Geschäftsführer: ' Das Nord Stream Race verbindet einzigartige Destinationen an der Ostsee mit der Herausforderung des Hochsee-Segelns und mit einem Rahmenprogramm, das Seinesgleichen sucht.
