America’s Cup World Series 2012-13 kicked off today with Artemis Racing – Red making its debut on the San Francisco Bay, lining up against Italy’s Luna Rossa – Piranha for the Match Racing Qualifiers.
Despite two good starts and a comfortable lead in both races, Artemis Racing – Red was defeated 2-0 by Chris Draper and his team onboard Luna Rosa – Piranha.
'It was a lot shiftier and lighter than we expected. We were set up for heavier conditions. We probably we overcooked it! We have been sailing with so much wind and the decreased conditions today were different than those in which we have been training. I know we can do better,' said helmsman Santiago Lange (ARG). 'We have a really good team, so we have to look ahead and sail very well.'
Racing continues tomorrow with the Match Racing Quarter Finals for Artemis Racing – White helmed by Terry Hutchinson (USA) versus Luna Rossa – Swordfish, followed by two fleet races for all of the 11 AC45s.
