The 25th Airlie Beach Race Week, being held from 8th to 15th August 2014, is going to be huge. Event organisers Whitsunday Sailing Club are planning for more boats, more supporters, more parties, and more fun for everyone.
Accommodation venues are already taking bookings from eager sailors who know it’s a good idea to get in early and secure the best on offer from among the diverse choices.
The club’s Sailing Development Officer, Tim Parker, is already busy with the technical details and the Notice of Race is due out by the end of February.
On shore, the club is going full steam ahead on planning the parties, live music and venues for the sailors to enjoy.
The first entry in is expected to be Don Algie’s Storm 2. He was there at the start, he’s competed in it every year for 24 years and he wouldn’t miss the 25th anniversary. 'The original Storm was an integral part of Race Week and so has been the new Storm for the last 10 years. I am always there, supporting it every year.
'The crew will all be there. The gang all get together and come in from all over the place – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Cairns: we come together for Race Week every year,' Algie said.
