The 74th running of the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup was co-hosted by MIT, Harvard, and Boston University. Saturday's conditions were cool but sunny with a NE breeze at 4-8 knots that shifted right to a ESE at 6-12. MIT Sailing Master and Harvard Head Coach ran eight races in each of the three divisions.
They were assisted both days by BU coaches Ben Spiller and Janel Zarkowsky and BU sailors Jacob Waldman '13 and Alejandro Bancalari '13 in the finish boat and scoring. On Sunday, MIT coed captain Toan Tran-Phu assisted with scoring.
Sunday was a very tricky 4-12 knot southerly and the race committee was able to get an additional nine races in each division for a total of 17 races for the weekend. Multiple windward marks were set and race committee identified the proper mark at two minutes to ensure the squarest possible beat.
Judges Pete Johns, Greg Kiely, Jeff Dusek, and John Pratt held three hearings resulting in DSQ's, there were two RAF's, and two Appendix P DSQ's.
