2014 Airlie Beach Race Week - Entries are now open for the 25th anniversary of Airlie Beach Race Week with many competitors eager to register in this year’s celebratory event.

With the event being a type of ‘high school reunion’ for sailors, Airlie Beach Race Week Event Chairman Jim Hayes is hoping participants of the past 25 regattas will enter to commemorate the special anniversary.

'This year’s event is expected to make history and we really want to see participants from past race weeks celebrate our anniversary with us,' Mr Hayes said, 'as well as welcoming new national and international sailors who want to see what makes this event unique'.

With divisions open to racing and cruising in the IRC and PHS, as well as non-spinnaker and OMR and cruising multihulls, the event will attract all types of sailors.

The sportsboat division should also see a strong fleet, with Mister Magoo, Viper, Conquistador and Bloke’s World expressing their interest for race week 2014.

My Hayes said the Whitsunday Sailing Club is planning to make this year’s event better than ever for competitors.

'We are known for hosting real people competing in real sailing and having real fun and this will be our finest ‘Tropical Shirt Regatta’ yet,' Mr Hayes said.

'The Whitsundays is a bucket list destination and race week showcases everything the region has to offer, both on and off the water.'

Airlie Beach Race Week will run from 8-15 August 2014 and is hosted by Whitsunday Sailing Club.
